Everyone has their own representation of waxed concrete (nuance effect, moiré effect) … It is a “living”, contrasting material. It is therefore very important to define upstream what your customer  wants as rendering.

During the first meeting, the SCAL’IN® expert will present to his client a color chart to agree on the desired final appearance, thanks to a large monochrome color plate, a sort of full-size color chart.

Then he will explain that the moiré (material effects) will intensify with the application of the varnish (the effects will amplify, and the color will darken a lot and then lighten a little at the end of the drying process). Waxed concrete, a mineral material, with grain effects will always present in the end, micro porosities, and in places the effects of textured materials (because the material is worked on site, to measure, with a spatula). Moiré is a material effect obtained with the spatula combined with the oxidation of the spatula on a wet substrate. As a result, intense dark oxidized (metal) effects may appear and fade with pronounced sanding.

At all stages of the work, the SCAL’IN® expert will apply several coats of lazure to reduce the effects of materials. Some colors are more sensitive to moiré than others. A SCAL’IN expert knows all of this. Also he/she will note that the color will depend on the support and the natural or artificial light to which the waxed concrete will be exposed.
